Weatherford is a city located in Custer County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,859.

Geography

Weatherford is located at 35°31'58" North, 98°42'2" West (35.532669, -98.700606)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.0 km² (5.8 mi²). 15.0 km² (5.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 9,859 people, 3,991 households, and 2,187 families residing in the city. The population density is 656.3/km² (1,699.3/mi²). There are 4,468 housing units at an average density of 297.4/km² (770.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 87.16% White, 1.95% African American, 4.97% Native American, 1.29% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 1.76% from other races, and 2.81% from two or more races. 4.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,991 households out of which 25.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.5% are married couples living together, 9.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.2% are non-families. 31.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.96.

In the city the population is spread out with 19.8% under the age of 18, 32.1% from 18 to 24, 22.4% from 25 to 44, 16.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 24 years. For every 100 females there are 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.2 males.
