Weakley County is a county located in the U.S. State of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 34,895. Its county seat is Dresden ⁶.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,507 km² (582 mi²). 1,503 km² (580 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.28% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 34,895 people, 13,599 households, and 9,124 families residing in the county. The population density is 23/km² (60/mi²). There are 14,928 housing units at an average density of 10/km² (26/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 90.27% White, 6.95% African American, 0.15% Native American, 1.32% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.52% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races. 1.15% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 13,599 households out of which 29.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.20% are married couples living together, 9.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.90% are non-families. 27.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
