The Big Bopper

Jiles Perry Richardson, Jr. (October 24, 1930 - February 2, 1959), better known as The Big Bopper but called Jape by his friends and wrote songs as J.P. Richardson, was a disc jockey who parlayed a big voice and exuberant personality into a career as an early rock and roll star.

His best-known song was "Chantilly Lace." He was killed along with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens in a plane crash, known as "The Day the Music Died".

As a disc jockey, Richardson once played 1,821 records without stopping, establishing a world record at the time. He discovered country music singer Johnny Horton[?] and wrote the song "Running Bear" for him. It was a posthumous hit.
