Social Circle is a city located in Newton County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,379.

Geography

Social Circle is located at 33°39'24" North, 83°43'2" West (33.656620, -83.717215)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.2 km² (11.3 mi²). 29.1 km² (11.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.27% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 3,379 people, 1,176 households, and 873 families residing in the city. The population density is 116.0/km² (300.5/mi²). There are 1,264 housing units at an average density of 43.4/km² (112.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 57.21% White, 41.31% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. 1.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,176 households out of which 34.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.7% are married couples living together, 21.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.7% are non-families. 21.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.21.

In the city the population is spread out with 28.3% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who are 65 years of age or older.
