Shackelford is a town located in Stanislaus County, California. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 5,170.

Geography

Shackelford is located at 37°36'54" North, 120°59'27" West (37.615082, -120.990969)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.2 km² (0.9 mi²). 2.2 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and 1.16% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 5,170 people, 1,363 households, and 1,053 families residing in the town. The population density is 2,348.4/km² (6,106.4/mi²). There are 1,454 housing units at an average density of 660.5/km² (1,717.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 50.14% White, 1.41% African American, 2.13% Native American, 0.95% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 38.63% from other races, and 6.62% from two or more races. 68.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,363 households out of which 49.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% are married couples living together, 18.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.7% are non-families. 15.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.79 and the average family size is 4.25.

In the town the population is spread out with 37.6% under the age of 18, 11.6% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 15.4% from 45 to 64, and 7.0% who are 65 years of age or older.
