Roxana is a village located in Madison County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,547.

Geography

Roxana is located at 38°50'18" North, 90°3'49" West (38.838397, -90.063653)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 17.7 km² (6.8 mi²). 17.6 km² (6.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.29% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,547 people, 655 households, and 436 families residing in the village. The population density is 87.8/km² (227.5/mi²). There are 697 housing units at an average density of 39.6/km² (102.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.51% White, 0.13% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.39% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 655 households out of which 28.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% are married couples living together, 10.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.4% are non-families. 29.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.36 and the average family size is 2.92.
