Pickaway County, Ohio

Pickaway County is a county located in the U.S. State of Ohio. As of 2000, the population is 52,727. Its county seat is Circleville⁶.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,313 km² (507 mi²). 1,300 km² (502 mi²) of it is land and 13 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.96% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 52,727 people, 17,599 households, and 13,287 families residing in the county. The population density is 41/km² (105/mi²). There are 18,596 housing units at an average density of 14/km² (37/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 91.95% White, 6.43% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. 0.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 17,599 households out of which 35.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.50% are married couples living together, 9.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.50% are non-families. 20.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.02.

In the county, the population is spread out with 24.30% under the age of 18, 9.00% from 18 to 24, 32.60% from 25 to 44, 23.40% from 45 to 64, and 10.80% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 122.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 125.00 males.
