Piatt County is a county located in the U.S. State of Illinois. As of 2000, the population is 16,365. Its county seat is Monticello, Illinois ⁶.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,140 km² (440 mi²). 1,140 km² (440 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.07% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 16,365 people, 6,475 households, and 4,726 families residing in the county. The population density is 14/km² (37/mi²). There are 6,798 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.83% White, 0.24% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. 0.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 6,475 households out of which 32.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.30% are married couples living together, 6.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.00% are non-families. 23.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
