Inyokern is a town located in Kern County, California. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 984.

Geography

Inyokern is located at 35°38'51" North, 117°48'50" West (35.647430, -117.813795)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 28.7 km² (11.1 mi²). 28.7 km² (11.1 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 984 people, 418 households, and 270 families residing in the town. The population density is 34.3/km² (88.9/mi²). There are 519 housing units at an average density of 18.1/km² (46.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 87.70% White, 0.41% African American, 4.88% Native American, 2.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.02% from other races, and 3.76% from two or more races. 6.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 418 households out of which 25.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.9% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.4% are non-families. 31.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
