ETH Zurich

ETH Zurich is the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland (in German: Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (ETHZ)).

ETH Zurich was opened in 1855 as a polytechnic institute, and for 114 years, until 1969, it was the only university in Switzerland.

In 2001, there were 11927 students, 330 professors and 840 lecturers.

ETH Zurich has produced 20 Nobel price winners, 11 of them in the field of chemistry. Most recently, Kurt Wüthrich has received the Prize in 2002 for his development of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy for determining the three-dimensional structure of biological macromolecules in solution.

Unlike most other universities, ETH Zurich has no campus; instead, with its various buildings and institutions spread all over Zurich, it is tightly integrated into the city.
