Edmund de la Pole

Edmund de la Pole (1471/1472 - 1513), Duke of Suffolk, was the younger brother of John de la Pole, Earl of Lincoln, and a nephew of King Edward IV and King Richard III.

Following John's death at the Battle of Stoke in 1487, Edmund became the leading Yorkist[?] claimant to the throne. Nevertheless, Henry spared his life and allowed him to succeed to his father's title of Duke of Suffolk in 1491. He married Margaret, daughter of Sir Richard Scrope. The headstrong Edmund did not have his elder brother's pragmatism, and a title was not enough for him. He left England in 1501 and went into voluntary exile in France, where he drew others such as Sir James Tyrrell into his intrigue. He himself escaped punishment until the reign of King Henry VIII of England, and was executed in 1513.
