Arthur Dee

Arthur Dee was the eldest son of John Dee. He accompanied his father in his peregrinations across Bohemia. Arthur Dee became a physician to the Romanov Tsar in Moscow for fourteen years where he wrote his 'Fasciculus Chemicus' a collection of writings upon alchemy. Upon his return to England he became physician to King Charles I[?].

Upon his retirement Arthur Dee sojourned in Norwich where he became a friend of Sir Thomas Browne. He died in October 1651. The relationship between John Dee's eldest son, Arthur to Sir Thomas Browne has been litttle explored; however it is worth noting that upon Arthur's death it was to Sir Thomas Browne that various alchemical manuscripts and books, including those belonging to Arthur's father John Dee, were bequeathed.

The most informative biographical details of Arthur Dee's biography remains that of Charlotte Fell-Smith of 1911.
