VERY GOOD saturation on this facet rough Mandarin orange Spessartite Garnet parcel - Should be able to cut some NICE gems depending on skill of cutter - Because of the saturation on these any inclusions should not be too distracting - Around 2-4 stones per parcel that are hand picked out of the entire lot to ensure fair quality - These are not huge smaller than some but you should be very satisified ! - These garnets bring a very nice retail price when cut - The best and cleaner pieces are hand selected out of the lot - These stones should cut eye clean to slightly included gems - Could also drill a hole through many of these and have ready made custom jewelry designs like beads for necklaces and bracelets etc. to increase the value of your product as they truly are NICE quality - Perfect for excellent melee / accent stones - These are some of the nicest mandarin spessartite garnet rough out of a large parcel - 2nd picture taken with more light to help show clarity - Bottom two pictures shows the difference between a more orange and orange red cut mandarin spessartite garnet which most agree the more orange is much prettier but can be a matter of preference as they are both nice ; the more orange ones are usually more coveted , prized and more valuable for their natural orange color

Clarification on what is referred to as Mandarin Garnet

A garnet stated exactly as Mandarin Garnet is a trade name for garnets coming only from Namibia and is a true bright orange garnet and not red orange. Most professionals know this however some who either lack this knowledge or ... are sold with other color hues and from other localities - This garnet is part of Spessartine or more commonly called Spessartite gemstone species

Per a highly regarded Gemologist who has been in the field for many years clarified that garnets stated as Mandarin Garnet is exclusively those that come from Namibia and no other Spessartite no matter how close the color and are a pure orange without any other hues like red. However, other reputable sources refer to the Nigerian Mandarin Orange Spessartite Garnet as Mandarin Garnet.

Large rough lots are sold as Mandarin Garnet so the buyer has to state what they know based on the information they have. We prefer to state that they are Mandarin Spessartite Garnet or Mandarin Orange Spessartite Garnet in our listing descriptions. Some of the stones are a very striking orange and others can have a reddish hue. We may use Mandarin Spessartite Garnet in the title but explain in our listings and some of our stones may be from Namibia. We do not coin the phrase Mandarin Garnet for anything known that is not from Namibia. It is stated in GIA that Mandarin Garnet is the trade name for bright orange spessartine from Namibia and at other places trained gemologists can determine the difference. The use of Mandarin Garnet for all garnets not coming from Namibia is referring to a orange colored Spessartite Garnet that is close to a mandarin color.

Because the lots purchased it was not known for sure if these garnets are from Namibia or Nigeria, we state both as that is the info supplied to us. Unfortunately these lots were mixed by the miners. It is next to impossible to find those strictly from Nambia and they are very close.

African mandarin colored spessartite - Mandarin Spessartites have excellent brilliance , high light refraction - Due to the saturation of these spessartites some inclusions should not distract from the beauty of the cut stone (s) - The vivid pure orangey colored Mandarine spessartines either from the Namibian or Nigerian area are simply stunning - A unique and rare gemstone that can have colors of mostly orange but can have some red with the less ideal having some brown but those can be great as well - A super stone to add to your jewelry or gem investment collection , a true gem collectors stone - With the Moh's hardness rating of 6-6.5 , this garnet is a very durable stone , takes a high polish and can be worn in all kinds of jewelry - Mandarin Garnets bring a good retail price - A beautiful gorgeous gem stone to cut - A "true" mandarin spessartite garnet looks similar to a juicy citris ORANGE fruit - These are more of the pure orange but also have some of the reddish orange stones - The entire lot was imported as Mandarin garnet
